The Practice has a long history as an accredited training practice for GP Registrars. These are fully qualified doctors who have had several years of hospital experience, have chosen General Practice as a career, and who spend at least a year of supported training and development at The Firs. The Registrar forms a regular part of our clinical team.
The Registrars are involved in all aspects of clinical care, including running their own clinics and also conducting home visits. Throughout the attachment, they have plenty of opportunity and experience in learning and teaching.
The practice nurses and midwives operate a variety of dedicated clinics and Registrars obtain first hand experience of this multidisciplinary delivery of clinical care.
We also have Foundation Year 2 (FY2) doctors working in the practice. These are qualified doctors at an early stage of their career before they have decided which speciality of medicine they will join. As part of their training, The FY2 doctors spend 4 months in the practice to obtain experience in General Practice and to gain a better understanding of primary care.
We are also part of the Royal London/Saint Bartholomew medical student training programme. Students spend selected days at The Firs learning about aspects of general practice and community care. Our registrars are invited to participate in the teaching of students.
“The Firs is a vibrant practice, providing a supportive, friendly environment to train in. There is always someone to answer questions and to give a second opinion. I would always recommend this practice to other GP Registrars”
Dr Alim Uddin (GP Registrar)
I would like to say I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the prctice. Everyone from the doctors to the receptionist were very supportive and helpful! I felt like my confidence in dealing with patients improved vastly and I learnt so much under the guidance of the practice doctors. Thank you very much for the opportunity!
Yousef Basma (FY2 Doctor)
